What is the condition of the wreck itself? Is it pretty devasted or very well preserved?
Will you post any photographs of the wreck itself on your website?
I find these images to be fascinating and haunting at the same
time. Sunken liners like the Republic are a time capsule of an era that we never had a chance
to see, the era of the great liners.

Chris,

When I found the wreck in 1981, and through 1986, the wreck was, for the most part, in remarkable condition - and our side scan sonar images clearly distinguish an identifiable "Republic," matching her rigging profile and even detailing rigging points on her funnel! The bow was spectacular, and stern with her props in tact. However, the haste and greed of other salvors has taken their toll. The entire main deckhouse, which was intact, has been ripped off, with much of the wreck now hardly indistinguishable from a huge rubble pile. All in all, a terrible waste . . . As for photographs, we plan on posting several and are contemplating, also, several live feeds, from divers helmet mounted cameras, ROV's, saturation system habitat, to shipboard views, on the Net for the 2003-5 salvage.
