We have a C.Q.D.gallantry medal from the saloon passengers of the RMS Balti and Republic and would be interested in knowing more about this medal. |

Posted At 17:55:07 01/04/2001 Hello, Jim, The medal you have "For Gallantry," was awarded to crewmembers of the Republic, Baltic for their efforts in the successful rescue of all the passengers (excluding, of course, the four killed as a direct result of the collision). Minted in New York at the request and expense of the Passengers, I believe they were minted in gold, silver and bronze - but I have only seen the bronze version. A picture can be found on our website. There were several newspaper articles describing the passengers' intent, the medals, and the minter, which appeared at the time. |
