She sank in much the same way the Andrea Doria met her demise some fifty years later, and in nearly the identical location - in a collision in a thick fog, in the main shipping traffic lanes, 50 miles South of Nantucket Island - the story's all here, in the website.

What is the condition of the wreck itself? Is it pretty devasted or very well preserved?
Will you post any photographs of the wreck itself on your website?
I find these images to be fascinating and haunting at the same
time. Sunken liners like the Republic are a time capsule of an era that we never had a chance
to see, the era of the great liners.

on june 7 i flew over the wreckage site is marked with a bouy out there it is pretty deep and the weather can get really bad out there i am thinking that the wreck is in a semi good state i know the bridge is gone and there are no masts or funnels lies on starbord side this wreck is extremely valuble because of the gold on board.i know this because i have seen it from the surface while i was underwater from my friends boatswiming bringing up our lobster traps huge lobsters out there
