Crew

The Republic's crew list for her last voyage has been compiled primarily from claims filed within the admiralty action brought by Republic's passengers and crew for the loss of their personal effects. The case was filed in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York. Those records are now located in the US National Archives, Bayonne, New Jersey. Other crewmembers have been added to this list if they were identified in contemporaneous sources. A complete crew list has not been located.

If you had a relative on board the Republic and have a family story to share, you are welcome to leave your contact information in our Crew - Final Voyage Forum.

MEDALS FOR BRAVE SAILORS

Officers and Crews Who Rescued the
Republic's Passengers to be Honored.

Medals will be presented this morning to the officers and crew of the White Star liner Baltic, now at the foot of West Tenth Street, for the part they played in the rescue of passengers of the White Star liner Republic, which was lost as a result of a collision with the Italian liner Florida last January. The officers will receive gold and the crew silver medals.
The medals are the joint gift of the saloon passengers of the Baltic and the Republic. The committee that raised the fund is composed of R. H. Ingersoll of New York, Arthur Bles of Paris, France; J. E. Lambie of London, England; Charles Ward of Charleston, West Va., and M. E. Waldstein of South Orange, N. J. Mr. Ingersoll will present the medals, which were designed by Mr. Bles.
On the obverse side of the medal is a picture of the White Star liner Republic with the wireless sputtering from the top of her mast. Above the picture are the letters, "C.Q.D., " the wireless signal of distress. On the deverse [sic] side is the inscription:

From the saloon passengers of the Baltic and Republic to the officers and crews of the steamships Republic, Baltic, and Florida for gallantry commemorating the rescue of over 1, 700 souls Jan. 24, 1909.

The officers and crew of the Republic will receive 240 medals and those of the Florida 97 medals. [The number of medals given to the Baltic's officers and crew is not mentioned in this article.]
